Introduction

The content of this book has been a process of 14 years of writing. This is why it has three parts and sections in it, which I am introducing here at the beginning of the book.  The book contains of prophetic visions, dreams and revelations, and they will be followed up by teaching and instructions from the Bible. Prophetic teaching always brings reformation and change. I am sharing the visions I have had, not for the purpose of being spectacular, or wanting to impress anybody in any way.  They actualise and are of importance what the Lord wants to speak to His people today.

It is of vital importance that all prophesy be grounded in the Word of God, and that is one reason why there is more space given to the teaching and instructions, than to the visions, dreams and revelations I have had.

Prophetic teaching is for everyone who has ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church today.

The purpose of this book is to help you understand that you cannot function in prophetic prayer unless you first have experienced life-changing prayer. That is the reason why the first part of the book is called; Life-changing Prayer. It will activate not only your own personal prayer-life, but also bring the local church-body on its feet in prayer.

When we do prayer fire relays, we call this walking the outer distance in prayer. I will talk more about that in another book and about how we set up strategies for praying for our cities and our nations.

Prayer and Vision

When I received the vision about the prayer-relay, and about walking your own distance in prayer, it also gave me an understanding of how prayer and receiving a vision are intricate parts of one another.  Prayer gives you a vision, and the vision keeps your prayer-life active.  We can’t pray out from legalism; it has to be life!

We are not to pray from the outside and in; but from the inside and out.

We will take a deeper look into the reality of doing this.  Prayer keeps the vision alive, and the vision keeps your prayer life active and full of life.  It helps you not to loose sight of the vision and the calling that God has placed in your heart. When we are able to understand and grasp this connection, we will experience a stability that will lead too much more breakthroughs in our lives.

We learn how to follow what is taking place when we pray, how to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit; to simply be able to walk our own, personal distance. That is why revelation is a keyword, in walking this first distance in prayer. There needs to be an assurance and a conviction in our spirit that propels us on.

The Sound of God Walking

It was very early, the morning of April the 9, 1991, in Kansas City, USA.  I had just started what I later referred to as the fast of my life. It lasted 40 days.

It was 4 am in the morning, when I suddenly awoke hearing footsteps in the bedroom. My first immediate reaction was that I thought someone had broken into the house.

I stood up in my bed, realizing that no one was there physically, but that Some One was there!  It just pleased the Lord to walk right into my bedroom and my dream, simultaneously, and wake me up!

Right then and there, and to be quite honest, I don’t know if I was awake or asleep, but I saw huge letters as if on fire:  The Sound of God Walking.  At the same time I heard a mighty strong voice asking me:  “Vello, where are you?”  I am taken by surprise, realising that it is the Lords voice I am hearing, and answering back in a loud voice I say:  “I am here”!  His reply came in such a way it gave me an immediate understanding. “I know where you are physically at any time and at any moment, but I want to know if you know where you are in your spirit. Are you ready to walk with me?  Are you ready to change? To be a history maker, and to be some one who will create a new future?”

After that night and the meeting I had with the Lord, a new chapter began in my life. It changed not only me, but also my ministry.  I cannot hide from the presence of the Lord. I must change first, before I can be a part of making revival history. That is what this book is all about.

And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?" (Gen 3:8-9 NKJV)

Where are you? – The call of God throughout history

Adam – where are you?

The first time we read about some one walking in the Bible, we read about God Himself walking in the cool of the morning.  Adam and Eve heard His footsteps in the garden, and they were afraid.  They had experienced His offer to them to walk together with Him. A life being dependent upon God is walking in a life style, eating from the tree of Life. Sadly, the tragedy had already struck. Adam and Eve had chosen their own path to the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Sin had entered, with death and evil as its consequence.  Adam was the first human being to experience walking in the flesh, and it brought him and Eve out of the Garden of Eden.  Adam didn’t leave positive footsteps for us to follow. But, we do know that God had a plan of fully restoring mankind back to walking with Him again, through the last Adam; our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Before we move further on let’s look at what the Bible says about the word “to walk”. It is an expression about walking both physically and spiritually.  It is often described in the way you live your life, or the life style that you lead.  The Greek word stoichehô; is significant to how you walk in relationship with others.  This word is used in Gal.5.25 referring to “walking in the Spirit” as an exhortation to keep step with one another in submission of heart to the Holy Spirit, and therefore of keeping step with Christ. (Vines dictionary).

Another word used is the Greek word, orthopodeô, which means to walk in a straight track or trail. In Gal.2:14, it is significant of having an aim of right conduct leaving a trace or path for others to follow. (Vines dictionary).

Enoch – where are you?

Throughout history, God has always been looking for some one to walk with Him. Five generations after Adam, Enoch heard the footsteps of God desiring to walk with him.  Enoch didn’t run and hide, but answered Gods call to him: “I am here – I am ready to walk with You Lord.”  It is written about Enoch: Enoch walked with God three hundred years, …. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. (Gen 5:22-24).

By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. (Heb 11:5).

Enoch walked with God for 300 years, (that is quite awesome compared to walking 3 miles wouldn’t you say?)  It must have been a walk from glory to glory which finally caused him to be in such unity with God that earth and heaven met and he was caught up into a glorious rapture.  Enoch left a trail for us, and an example for the Bride of Christ to follow.

Noah – where are you –will you walk with God?

Noah was the one who really heard the historical footsteps of God. Not at any time earlier, or later, has any one changed the time of history as to what took place in his lifetime.

Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. (Gen.6:9)

By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. (Heb.11:7).

Abraham – where are you – will you walk with God?

Abram had his name changed to Abraham, which means Father of many.  When he heard the footsteps of God, he left his homeland and began walking towards the Promised Land.

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. (Heb.11:8)

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.

5 "No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations. (Gen 17:1,5 (NKJV).

Where are you?  Will you walk with God?

The question sounding down through history is also your question.  Can you hear His footsteps today?  Ever since the fall of man, God has been searching for some one to walk with, to have fellowship with and some one He can cooperate with.

"For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars." (2Chron.16:9).

Let us cultivate our hearing, having ears listening for His footsteps today. Jesus is the way to the Father. Jesus says: "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. (Joh.10:27).  As His friends He lets us know what He is doing. But I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. (Joh.15:15b).
